Final End of year Report from President Kwatia to members

Dear CITG Members/ Students/ Stakeholders,

Reflecting on 2023 and Charting the Course for 2024 and beyond: A message from Mr. George Ohene Kwatia, CITG President

As 2023 concludes, it's time to reflect on our journey at the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG). This year showcased our collective efforts and dedication, resulting in significant achievements.

Membership Growth

We are proud to announce a substantial increase in membership, with 149 newly admitted and 223 associates in 2023, compared to 69 and 81, respectively, in 2022. This reflects the growing recognition of CITG as a leading professional body in taxation. Improved result publication processes have enhanced the student experience.

Member Support

Addressing challenges faced by our members and students has been a priority. Robust support systems, including increased Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, have kept our members at the forefront of industry trends.

Advancements in Education

Our commitment to high-quality educational programs is evident in the successful re-organization of our previously held Transfer Pricing Workshops into an Advanced Diploma in Transfer Pricing. This initiative prepares our members and other professionals for the complexities of the modern tax landscape.

Ghana Tax College, Weija

Special mention goes to our Ghana Tax College, Weija, instrumental in providing top-notch tuition and training to CITG students for their professional qualifying examinations. Operational since January 2020, the college has a student population of about 120, with dedicated faculty and staff driving our students' success.

Joint CPD and Tax Clinic

The joint CPD organized with ICAG, ACCA, and CIMA on December 14, 2023, was a resounding success. Another exciting event, the "Tax Clinic," is scheduled for January 24, 2024, focusing on customs and related issues. We are pleased to announce that CIB, IoD-GH, AGI and GUTA are joining as additional collaborating institutions.

Visibility and Publicity Challenges

Acknowledging challenges in visibility and publicity, we are committed to overcoming them through MOUs, strategic advertisements, tax clinics, roadshows and other initiatives to enhance CITG's presence, as well as taxpayer and public tax education.

Student Body Challenges

Plans are underway to enhance the student experience, including increased engagement, mentorship programs, and better communication channels.

In Memoriam

This year, we bid farewell to dear members, notably P. O. Andah, a founding member and past president. In recognition of his significant impact, a posthumous award was bestowed upon Honoree P. O. Andah.

Expansion of CITG Best Candidate Awards and Call for Sponsorship

We expanded our institute’s awards to include individual honors for each paper from 1 to 12. Mr. Martin Dordzie and Dr. Frank Yao Gbadago have pledged sponsorship for Paper 3 and Paper 8, respectively. We invite sponsorship from our membership and practicing firms to further enhance these awards.

CITG Operations Automation Going Live

Automation of CITG operations is set to go live in January 2024, with training sessions scheduled for December 28th and 29th, 2023.

Looking Ahead to 2024 and Regulatory Compliance Campaign

Exciting programs and collaborations are planned for 2024, including collaborations with various institutions, a set minimum number of CPDs, fellowship awards, and land acquisition for future expansion. A regulatory compliance campaign will take center stage in 2024, requiring the collective support of our members.

Gratitude to Key Stakeholders

Special appreciation to our mother ministry, Minister of Education, and key stakeholders for their continuous support. I applaud the exemplary leadership of our Council Chairman and members, as well as acknowledge the Secretariat and facilitators for their outstanding contributions throughout the year.

Notice of 2024 Subscriptions Due

As we approach the end of the year, a reminder to settle annual subscription dues for 2024 by January 1, 2024, is crucial for the success of our initiatives.

Wishing you a joyous festive season and a prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Mr. George Ohene Kwatia, FCITG
